We’re looking for an enthusiastic leader who’s passionate about foodservice excellence and team development. As a District Manager, you’ll oversee 5–10 accounts ($2M–$5M revenue), drive menu innovation, coach your team, and deliver outstanding client results—with 80% travel to client sites.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The District Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and performance of an assigned portfolio of accounts (typically 5-10 accounts) within the Dining Division, with total annual managed revenue of $2M - $5M across all assigned accounts.
  • Implement and innovate all menu and recipe development initiatives for each account, driving customer satisfaction and promoting menu variety.
  • This key leadership role is accountable for the development and maintenance of the: Employee Training & Development Plan, Financial Operating Plan, Marketing & Merchandising Plan, and Nutrition Education Plan for each assigned account.
  • Whether focused on multiple sites for a single client or multiple clients, the key success measures of a District Manager include: Client Annual Retention, Annual Operating Costs vs. Budget, Labor Costs vs. Budget, Margin, Consumer Satisfaction, and Employee Engagement.
  • In this role, travel requirements are 80% to client sites and 20% to our corporate office.
  • Model key leadership behaviors and ensure the highest levels of safety, quality, and service excellence for employees, clients, and consumers.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Culinary, or Business Management.
  • Proven leadership experience, typically acquired over 5 years, including P&L responsibility within the hospitality, retail, facilities, direct store delivery, or food and beverage industries.
  • Experience managing multi-unit operations with total annual managed volume of $2M - $5M+ across assigned accounts (or equivalent district-level P&L responsibility).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a broad knowledge of management practices, business judgement, and client/consumer interaction.
  • Must have strong client relationship skills dealing with customer contacts at all levels.
  • Must have excellent management skills directing multiple field representatives and account managers.
  • Must have good contract foodservice management/industry knowledge.

Variety FoodServices is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Kitchen Operations Manager to lead a complex, high-volume food production operation. This position is well suited for a results-oriented leader with a strong background in food production, logistics, manufacturing, or other fast-paced operational environments who is committed to driving efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement.

 

This operation is centered on off-site centralized food production supporting multiple service channels, including K-12 schools, senior nutrition programs, institutional accounts, and grab-and-go retail distribution.

 

The Kitchen Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of daily production and operational performance, including workflow optimization, product quality, food & staff safety and regulatory compliance, labor management, inventory coordination, and overall operational efficiency. This role provides direct leadership and support to Production Supervisors responsible for day-to-day execution, while indirectly overseeing a team of 35+ production employees to ensure company standards, customer expectations, and operational goals are consistently achieved.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage kitchen production operations to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Manage production system, data, & administrative team
  • Manage food and labor costs; minimize waste; participate in budgeting and purchasing decisions

  • Conduct routine inspections and review production logs to ensure compliance with operational standards
  • Oversee inventory management and procurement to ensure adequate supply levels and uninterrupted operations
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership to identify and implement best practices
  • Support workforce development initiatives, including coaching, training, career pathing, and succession planning
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of operations

 

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Hospitality Management, or related field preferred;
    • No degree is acceptable IF equivalent operational leadership experience in high-volume food production environments (15+years)
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in an operations management role
  • Proven success managing high-volume teams of 30+ employees, including supervisory staff and frontline teams, preferably in food production, manufacturing, or logistics
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fast-paced, high-volume operational environments
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor costs, and operational KPIs

The Food Service Warehouse Lead is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Food & Nutrition Services warehouse and storage areas, including dry storage, refrigeration, and frozen inventory. This position serves as the central point of coordination for receiving deliveries, organizing inventory, maintaining proper storage conditions, and preparing products for distribution to school sites.

 

The Warehouse Lead works closely with route drivers, kitchen managers, and the Food Service leadership team to ensure accurate product distribution, efficient inventory management, and compliance with food safety and USDA program requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Receive, inspect, and verify all incoming food and supply deliveries for accuracy, quality, and temperature compliance.
  • Maintain organized storage areas for dry, refrigerated, and frozen products in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Rotate inventory using First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory management practices.
  • Ensure all storage areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor product temperatures and maintain logs for refrigerated and frozen storage areas.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory counts of all warehouse food and supply items.
  • Assist with monthly inventory counts and reporting.
  • Identify low stock levels and communicate needs to the Food Service Director or Culinary Manager.
  • Track product movement between warehouse and school sites.

Distribution and Logistics

  • Coordinate with route drivers to stage and organize product for daily school deliveries.
  • Prepare and assemble product orders based on pull sheets or delivery schedules.
  • Ensure all products are properly labeled and staged for efficient loading and transport.
  • Assist with troubleshooting shortages, substitutions, and/or delivery issues.

Compliance & Food Safety

  • Follow USDA, state, and local health department regulations related to food storage and handling.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and hazard prevention practices.
  • Ensure proper storage temperatures and maintain required documentation.

Operational Support

  • Support Food & Nutrition Services staff with product pulls, special events, or catering preparation when needed.
  • Be able to support and fill in as a route driver when needed and complete routes in a timely manner.
  • Maintain warehouse equipment including carts, shelving, and storage units.
  • Report facility, equipment, or safety concerns to the Food Service Director.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Michigan Chauffeur’s License (or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Minimum 1-3 years of warehouse, inventory, or food service experience preferred.
  • Experience in school nutrition programs, food distribution, or institutional food service is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of warehouse organization and inventory practices.
  • Understanding of food safety procedures and proper food storage methods.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and inventory documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with drivers, kitchen managers, and administrative staff.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand, bend, push, pull, and move product for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments when necessary.

Product Freshness:

  • Conduct daily walk-throughs to monitor product quality and expiration dates, communicating soon-to-expire items to management.
  • Ensure that refrigerated and frozen products are handled and stored promptly to preserve freshness.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, train, and develop a warehouse team of two, setting clear productivity goals and addressing performance issues when necessary.

Support Distribution Team:

  • Be prepared to cover driver routes and deliver shipments in case of emergencies.

Requirements:
